The ICT Academy of Kerala embraced the spirit of festivals and spread the contagious joy that came with it during the month that filled hearts with a sense of pride and unity with the Independence Day. August also brought us the vibrant and colourful festival of Onam, a time of grand feasts, mesmerising folk dances, and the iconic games and celebrations through which we explored the depths of happiness, cultural richness, and the indomitable spirit of our nation.

Sense of accomplishment

We are thrilled to announce that the ICT Academy of Kerala (ICTAK) has achieved a remarkable feat by winning the coveted first position in the 32nd National Award for Innovative Training Practices 2021-22 in the Institutes/B-schools category, presented by the Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD). This prestigious recognition, received on August 3rd, 2023, at Tagore Chamber, Scope Convention Centre, New Delhi, underscores ICTAK’s unwavering commitment to revolutionising training methodologies and pushing the boundaries of excellence. Mr. Riji N. Das (Head – Knowledge Office) and Mr. Sreekumar K.V (Head – Retail Business & Operating Unit) presented the work of ICTAK during the evaluation process. The formal presentation of the award will take place at the esteemed ISTD National Convention in Jaipur this December.

Empowering educators

In the pursuit of empowering the educators who shape tomorrow’s workforce, the Train The Master Trainer (TTMT) program held on August 26th, 2023, at Park Centre Technopark, emerged as a pivotal event within the Youth Innovators Program (YIP) 5.0. Organised by the ICT Academy of Kerala in partnership with the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC), this program brought together approximately 30 master trainers. The TTMT program equipped these educators with the latest knowledge and tools, fostering an environment of innovation and excellence in education. This investment in the professional development of master trainers promises a brighter future for the youth of Kerala, bridging the gap between traditional education and the dynamic demands of the modern world. 

Eventful month

August was an eventful month for the educational community in Kerala as the ICT Academy of Kerala successfully hosted its Academic Membership Program Launch events across three regions: Southern, Central, and Northern. These programs served as a pivotal platform for representatives from member colleges identified for the academic year 2023-24, geared towards networking, knowledge sharing, and fostering collaborations among like-minded institutions.

The series of launch events commenced at the Travancore Hall in Park Center, Technopark, marking the beginning of a knowledge-rich journey. The central segment was held on August 17, 2023, at Indeevaram, Infopark, Koratty, Thrissur. Subsequently, the northern region hosted its event on August 18, 2023, at the Banquet Hall, UL CyberPark, Nellikode, Kozhikode. The enthusiasm was palpable, especially as the southern launch event alone hosted 121 participants. One of the highlights of these launch events was the presence of Mr. Santhosh Kurup, the CEO of ICTAK. He addressed the gatherings in all three locations and personally issued membership certificates to member institutions. His insights and vision inspired and guided the attendees towards the program’s objectives.

Apart from that, ICTAK conducted other engaging programs such as a faculty development session held at TKM Arts and Science College in Kollam on August 10th, focusing on ChatGPT led by Mr. Reji N. Das (Head – Knowledge Office) and Mr. Gopu Darshan (Lead Knowledge Officer) 39 participants explored the world of artificial intelligence and language processing. 

Job drives and bootcamps

ICTAK, in association with KKEM and other organisations, is making a significant difference through their job drives, specially through virtual job fairs. These initiatives not only provide opportunities for job seekers but also contribute to the growth of businesses. The diverse range of opportunities offered by ICTAK’s multiple job drives caters to various industries, making it a valuable resource for individuals with different career aspirations. In the month of August, we had five job drives involving Nexgen Solution Providers Pvt. Ltd., Rainhopes 247 Online Company, Insight Group, Cloud Solutions, and Press Ganey, in which a total of 360 candidates were presented with an opportunity to secure a job.

In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, staying competitive means continuously enhancing skills and knowledge. On August 19, 2023, Ms. Aswathy G. (Academic Counselor cum Project Coordinator, Retail Operations) skillfully coordinated the Data Science and Analytics Physical Bootcamp in Thiruvananthapuram. The primary focus of this event was ‘Exploratory Data Analytics’ a critical skill in today’s data-driven world. With six dedicated participants, the intimate setting allowed for in-depth learning under the guidance of expert trainer Mr. Mohammed Shafeeq. Participants had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of data analytics, exploring data visualisation, pattern recognition, and data-driven decision-making.

Simultaneously, on the same day, Ms. Karthika R. (Asst. Manager – Digitial Marketing, Retail Operations) coordinated the Full Stack Development Virtual Bootcamp, which gathered 18 enthusiastic participants in a virtual environment. This bootcamp was centred around ‘Bootstrap CSS and HTML’ essential competencies for web development and design in the industry. Ms. Mridula Reghunath (Senior Knowledge Officer, Knowledge Office) served as the trainer.

Adding to the series of enriching bootcamps, on August 24, 2023, Ms. Ameena S.R. (Academic Counselor cum Project Coordinator, Retail Operations) coordinated the System Training Virtual Bootcamp in a virtual setting. The focus here was on ‘Test Plan and Use Case Discussion’ , a vital aspect of ensuring the quality and reliability of systems and software. Mr. Subin P. John (QA Engineer 1, IQVIA) led the discussions. Participants in this bootcamp had the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of test planning and use case discussions.

These bootcamps underscore the retail department’s commitment to equipping professionals with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in an ever-changing market.

Aarppoo… Irrroo…

‘Aarppoo… Irrroo…’ was a celebration that beautifully captured the essence of Onam, uniting tradition, culture, and togetherness. It was a day with vibrant festivities, delectable food, cultural performances, and warm camaraderie.

On August 25, the day commenced with a burst of colour and creativity as participants crafted a stunning Athapookalam, a traditional floral carpet. The celebration officially began with the Inauguration and an address by our CEO, Mr. Santhosh Kurup. Esteemed guests, Mr. Ratan Kelkar IAS, IT Secretary and Mr. V.K. Mathews, Chairman of IBS Software graced us with their presence. Their inspiring words  set the tone for a day filled with warmth and togetherness.

Following the much-anticipated Onasadya, the festivities continued with cultural activities and games. Participants immersed themselves in the rich culture of Kerala through captivating performances and friendly competitions. Laughter and cheer resonated throughout the venue.

The highlight of the celebrations arrived at the end with Maveli’s grand entry. The evening concludes with a high note of excitement and merriment with the rhythmic beats of Chenda Melam, leaving everyone with cherished memories.

In the joyful month of August, filled with festivities, achievements, and a commitment to education, the ICT Academy of Kerala and its dedicated team have demonstrated their unwavering dedication to excellence and innovation. From winning prestigious awards to empowering educators and hosting enriching events, ICTAK’s impact on education and employment in Kerala is undeniable.
